Brazen corruption, press intimidation, and county-business in remote McCurtain County, Oklahoma. When a small family-run newspaper begins reporting on allegations of sex, drugs, and violence within the county sheriff’s office, they find themselves the target of the sheriff’s retaliation. As tensions escalate, the paper secretly records the sheriff and local officials musing about killing and burying them, turning a local story into national news. Told through the voices of county residents and secret recordings, the story stands as a small town microcosm for the state of journalism and political polarization in America.
